This week's Economist includes a lengthy, thoughtful series of articles on corporate social responsibility. In their words:
This special report will look in detail at how companies are implementing CSR. It will conclude that, done badly, it is often just a figleaf and can be positively harmful. Done well, though, it is not some separate activity that companies do on the side, a corner of corporate life reserved for virtue: it is just good business.

Interesting note: I just checked out the source credits for this special report, and of the 8 article cited, two were co-authored by Michigan professors! Prahalad and Jim Walsh! Here's the link to the source list: http://www.economist.com/surveys/displaystory.cfm?story_id=10490985
